Qigong is the art and science of health maintenance, illness prevention, and healing that originated in ancient China. Qigong, pronounced “chee gung”, embodies two principles:
(1) Qi, the vital energy of the body and
(2) gong, the practice and cultivation of the Qi.

How does Qi Gong work?

The physical practice of medical or healing qi gong consists of simple, easy rhythmic movements, many of which you do standing, but you can do it sitting too. Qi gong is playful and fun. You do not need any particular level of physical flexibility and anyone can enjoy doing it. There are specific movements and practices that assist with calming anxiety, improving sleep, and increasing your energy level.

What are the benefits of Qi Gong?
The ultimate goal of Qi Gong is to improve the balance of the functions of the body, including digestion, sleep, elimination, immunity, and an overall sense of vitality and health. The research on Qi Gong indicates it is helpful in:

  • improving balance
  • improving immune function
  • decreasing pain
  • increasing range of motion in joints
  • improving sleep
  • lessening anxiety
